Sunday, May 12, 10:30 am Blessings and Prayers for Fr. Patrick & St. Martin’s/St. Luke’s
Sunday, May 12, will be Fr. Patrick’s last day as Priest in Charge of St. Martin’s/St. Luke’s congregation. We will celebrate his ministry amongst us all and offer prayers for both Fr. Patrick and his family, and for our siblings at St. Martin’s/St. Luke’s who are again (still) in transition, awaiting the appointment of a new Administrative Commission, and an update about the challenges and possibilities of the St. Martin’s building.
A reception and time of mutual sharing will follow the service.

Pentecost! Pentecostés! Pinkster!
with Storyteller Joy Kelly Smith festive coffee hour
celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit in-person and online!

What is Pinkster? An African-American holiday, celebrated by enslaved and free Black people, including African music, song and dance. A variation of the Dutch word ‘Pinksteren’ meaning Pentecost. Dutch colonizers in present-day New York State brought the celebration of Pinkster to North America in the 17th century. By 1813 despite or perhaps because of its popularity, the city of Albany, New York passed an ordinance banning the drinking and dancing associated with Pinkster. This law was only repealed in 2011.
