Staying Cool and Connected – Summer Ice Breakers
Some people think that you have to have a problem or a religious question to talk with a priest, not true! This summer we will have four Summer Ice Breakers: small gatherings with St. Mary’s (still) new rector simply for the purpose of getting to know each other better. Each gathering will be for no more than 8 people and will offer simple refreshments. Please call the Parish Office 212-864-4013 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, to sign up for July 8 at 6 pm, July 18 or 25 at 12:30 pm, July 29 at 7 pm. RSVP is required.
St. Mary’s in Action: Robert D. Jones Shelter Ministry
The RDJ Shelter has a mission to build relationships: relationships between and among guests and volunteers, and relationships with other organizations who serve people experiencing homelessness. Currently we welcome five men each night to the Undercroft, along with a volunteer who supports opening/closing and other details. Each guest is admitted for an initial six months, and meets regularly with tutors, buddies, and other support to clarify goals and plan next steps. Guests and volunteers meet for a weekly community meal and discussion about how things are going in people’s individual lives and in the “family” of the Shelter. Our relationships with the Riverside Church and the Center for Urban Community Services (among others) are essential for providing professional case management for guests; they have also helped the Shelter itself to clarify and define our work. Developing important relationships with one another is a blessing for guests, volunteers and St. Mary’s as a whole – if you would like more information about how to contribute, please contact Sydney Kornegay, Shelter Coordinator, through the Parish Office or email@example.com.
