Wednesday, May 2, 9 am-5 pm: Multifaith Strategies for Nonviolent Direct Action
The Interfaith Center of New York is partnerning with the Micah Institute and the New York State chapter of the Poor People’s Campaign to host a conference for religious and civic leaders exploring practical strategies for nonviolent direct action rooted in diverse faith traditions- including interfaith dialogue and hands-on civil disobedience training. It will contribute to the Poor People’s Campaign’s upcoming 40 Days of Moral Action, and to the Micah Institute’s ongoing efforts to transform NYC. Keynote by The Rev. Thursday, May 17, 7-10 pm: A Liturgy of Lamentation- Commemorating the presence of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
Part of the Year of Lamentation of the Diocese of New York. This three-year period was declared at the 2017 Diocesan Convention as a means of understanding and addressing the diocese’s past role in the slavery era and the ongoing injustice associated with it today.
Performers include: Paul Winter (world famous soprano saxophonist); Reggie Wilson (Choreographer, Fist and Heel Performance Group); Tonika Custalow; Vissi Dance Theatre; William E. Randolph (Assistant Organist of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine); and acclaimed singer and music director, Jeannine Otis.
Speakers: The Very Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas (Dean of Episcopal Divinity School at Union Theological Seminary, Professor of Theology at Union and Canon Theologian at Washington National Cathedral); The Rt. Rev. Andrew S. Dietsche (Bishop of the Diocese of New York); and “Richard Jenkins” (a formerly enslaved 18th Century Episcopalian who helped build and then served as sexton for St. James’, Hyde Park, played by actor Brockton Pierce). Volunteer with the New Sanctuary Coalition, Tuesdays 6 pm
The New Sanctuary Coalition are seeking volunteers to help people at risk of deportation. Our biggest need is at our Tuesday night clinics that help individuals to plan for and understand their own case. If it is your first time you will be able to shadow other volunteers, and you will learn more about upcoming trainings. NYU Law, Vanderbilt Hall, 40 Washington Sq South, Golding lounge on the 2nd floor.

X  Regular Happenings at St. Mary’s Church! X

Every 1st Sunday 2:00 p.m. in Marcus Garvey Park. St. Mary’s is the lead congregation on the first Sunday of each month. We always need some volunteers to help prepare and serve the “Second Meal” following the service.

Unity Fellowship Church of New York
Led by Sr. Bishop Zachary Jones. Unity worships on Sundays at 2:00pm.

Metro New York Adventist Forum
Led by Ms. Janet Schultz. Adventist Forum gathers on the second Saturday of the month (please check for specific dates).

Miriam, Mark and Marx: Our interfaith Justice and Peace Activism Community meets the last Thursday of each month. We gather at 6:00PM to share food, experiences, and feelings. Free Movie! Every Friday Night at St. Mary’s Church at 6:00 pm… St. Mary’s Movies! April 27: Spirited Away (2001) pg, animated adventure, 2h3m. a sullen 10-yr-old wanders into a highly imaginative ghostly world where humans are changed into beasts. Hiyao Miyazaki’s must-see classic! Come for the fellowship, the movie, the popcorn, dinner and the fun…  volunteers always needed and welcome.

Saturday Mobile Soup Kitchen: Help prepare sandwiches and lunch bags and then distribute them to our neighbors on the street. Every Saturday at 12 noon.

Urban Qi (free Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes for St. Mary’s members) every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Park @135th Street. Inclement weather–meet in the Undercroft.
